Books that will keep you hooked
I have read many books in last year mostly on mystery, thriller and suspense genre and recently in comedy genre also. Most of them use the first half to build the second half due to which 50% of the initial book becomes a kind of a bore. So if you are someone who wants to read but needs books that are interesting from start to the end, here are some of the best books I have read.
- One of us is Lying by Karen M. McManus
It is a suspense/mystery novel that will keep you hooked from the start to the end written by Karen M. McManus. I am shocked how this much good of a book hasn't been turned into a movie yet. It is about 4 people who are suspects in a murder mystery and how the story unfolds. Go for it. It's the best in the murder mystery genre.
2. One of us is next by Karen M. McManus
The second recommendation is the sequel of the first one. I love this franchise. The theme is similar to the first one. The protagonists are different characters but somehow related to the first ones. It can be read as a separate book but after reading the 1st you will get a wholesome feeling while reading this. The story is more adventurous and has higher stakes and plot twists. Give this book series a try. You won't regret it.
3. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
If you are not living under a rock, you would know this drama series. Looking at the cast, do you want any other reason to know why this would be a great read.
It has everything. The book is so well written. It has mystery, teamwork, what it means to have consent, women empowerment, motherhood, friendships, relationships.
It creates a mystery from the very first and you just need to know more with every chapter.
4. Dial A for Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto
After reading a lot of serious books, I turned to the comedy genre. And oh god, this was hilarious. The story revolves around a Chinese family who is trying to make a family business around marriages. It has all the elements one needs to enjoy in a good mood. It is quirky, humorous, and shows the relation of a mother-daughter. It has comedy sprinkled over rom-com and murder. It gives us a perception of Chinese culture and cuisine. Being an Indian (fellow Asian) myself, I can very much relate to the protagonist.
Pick it up if you want to have a good laugh.
Some more recommendations in mystery/thriller novels include The girl with a dragon tattoo(dark), The Silent Patient (psychological fiction), The guest list, Before I go to sleep.
I hope you enjoy the books.
Happy Reading!
